And I think that is where we have the problem. Historically, men have taken on the roles that involve sweat and toil. It is hard to maintain the metrosexual look while working in the fields.
I think it is noteworthy to point out that, when men fill roles that are more stationary and allow for more time, that many societies have “metrosexuals” – or men who do worry about fashion and such adornment.
I heard some silly person on NPR the other day saying that in the developing world, women were "equal with men as far as labor is concerned," because they get to do the heavy lifting, too.
ReplyDeleteSo equality can't be division of labor, or equal honor in the labor you do -- no, only if you are to the same degree a beast of burden are you "equal as far as labor is concerned."
And you know, in some of those really "equal" cultures, the women are out in the fields while them men are sitting around smoking and drinking, too. Not all, but some. But hey, it's "equal" because the women are getting sweaty and aging prematurely just like the (less privileged among the) men.
